it's all personal preference really. My personal favorites as of now are selmer and keilwerth, over yamaha, but I havn't been able to try yanis. then of course, there are the good ol' vintage horns, some awsome kings, old bouschers (spelling) and whatnot that I like. there are more of course (brands) that are good.

In my opinion avoid Zeus. I have a sax article here under "The truth about Zeus"

For around 4 years I played on one of those beginner Accents, and it was great. I loved it. A couple years ago my Band Director wanted me to get a Canonball, so me, being the scared freshmen I was, agreed and traded mine in.

The Canonball is okay, but the pads don't seem to last very long. It also seems to have a new leak everyday.

I've always heard selmer is the best, though.

Yanis are really nice horns, I prefer them over Yamaha. Selmers are the best horns out there though.

DISCLAIMER> I say that selmers are the best but I must confess I have not played on a "first class" or whatever lera said. I'll have to give one of those a shot when I can save up the $30.

I use Yanagisawa T901 Tenor and A991 Alto, If I was to change anything I would have bought a T991, but the 901 is still a good horn. I couldn't be happier, I am sold on Yanagisawa's.

semer mark VI or super action 80 series II 'hands down' everythin else is pretty much a copy of the selmer horns or a yamaha horn. End of thread.

The Mark VI is preferred over the Super action, but since you specifically mentioned the series II, I will say that most people prefer the series III.

For the record I have a series II.

I ordered 3 different sereies III horns and all of them had a defect. There was a delay in the octave key mechanism. So I ended up purchasing the series II and saved me a couple of bucks. But I hear most people's opinion centered around the series II. I played a gig with a guy who had his mark VI sent back to selmer and re-laquered. The horn looks like he just bought it, and he said it plays perfectly. Man I wish I had that horn, but I would've left it in the original condition. Might have lost some value, what ya think?

For me, it depends on the voice. Sop and alto, I like Yamaha and for Tenor and Bari, I like Selmer.
