When buying a sax, I suggest a quality model used sax that has been checked by a reputable shop. Nothing worse than trying to learn on a sax that does not work right. For less than the cost of that new Yamaha ($1700) you can buy a great vintage pro model sax for $500 and have it rebuilt by a shop. It will be amazing, and it will never lose it's value. Some of the cheapo student models these days would be wasting your money. Don't buy anything that you can't have checked by a reputable shop first. Learners shouldn't learn on cheap nasty saxes. Easier to learn a on a quality horn that works right. My school owned Selmer Mark VI horns, for just that very reason. Look at an old Martin , King , Conn or Buscher to get a good deal. Don't bother with Selmer unless you have a deep wallet. (But they're great.) Warning tough, old saxes usually need lots of work, so don't pay a lot.
