Is there anyone who can give me advise?
I have looked all over the internet but I couldn’t find a topic about sax and denture.
I have a simple though complex question.
Is it possible to play saxophone with a denture?
I know people who have a set of new upper teeth and that’s is no problem. But can you play with plastic teeth in the lower half of your mouth?

Please don’t give me the advise to ask a dentist. I already don that I’ve even asked several university hospitals. They didn’t want to give me an answer. They are only interested to lure me to a consult

Truthfully I have no clue but I don't see how it would be a problem. You don't actually use your teeth except to hold the mouthpiecein place and you bite through you lip to the reed. Maybe if the dentures were loose it might affect it.

That’s just the major problem no one really has a clue. Some say it’s possible others say maybe if you’re very lucky.

I was hoping to find someone who plays whit dentures and who could share his or hers experience with me. I find it hard to believe that there is no one ,who had the same problems as I, especially because it is a well known fact the musicians are tempt to use drugs and some drugs wreck your teeth just like some prescription medicine.

For over twenty years I’ve been taking medicine to live a acceptable life. For me is sax playing and every now and then a gig, one of the few things that keep me going on. So if I have to loose that. I want to know beforehand and not find out afterwards. For me its a horror to live in this uncertainty

My Great Uncle has dentures and still plays. I'm sure how he does it, but yes it is possible.

Tanks, you are the first person that told me that there where other people who play whit dentures. It gives me hope for my “sax future”

Still I find it rather odd that you can not find a thing about this issue on the internet.

A very fine player I met in Denmark last year played with dentures. His name is Henrick Muller and can be reached at http://www.saxofon.dk He is a fine player and worked on the RD team for the Yamaha new custom horns and I sure he will return a Email with some help for you. He is very well respected in Europe for honest info without the sales pitch crap the that seem to infest the web. His english is very good so give him a mail.

Fraz thanks for your support. I’ve mailed to Henrick Muller. And this was his reply.

Thank you for your e-mail!
Henrik, who is our repairman here at the workshop, does indeed have dentures, and has never experienced any problems with it. He cannot see how it should be a problem for you, although you might need to get the teeth in the lower part of the mouth filed if your lip is bothered when you play. Other than that; good luck with playing the saxophoneJ
It was very nice of Fraz to speak so kindly of Henrik, who sends his regards.

Kind regards
