Who cares that it's old!!! I say we keep it going! Now that I'm "adjusted" with sax, I would have to add the bass as my personal favorite for now .

You play the bass sax?? THAT'S AWESOME!!!!!!! As mentioned before, I like playing lower parts so I hope to start playing the tenor sax for lower parts. I think the bari sax would be cool, too.

!!! Sorry about that !!! I don't really play it , but it has become my favorite in the sax family. Hopefully, in the near future I will acquire enough money to purchase one...

Ive played it before, my lessons teacher let me try his. He has one made by "International Woodwinds" or something like that. It was really cool, if i had one, it would be my favorite sax, or for that matter, my favorite instrument.

solo, yes. band, not really, unless you like the whole "im ok not getting the melody or harmony just some bass line to support the band" type of thing. Most bands dont have them anyway, which sucks. But i still like it A LOT!

Yeah, the bad thing is that the overall "coolness" of the bass is overlooked by almost everyone. I think I posted this before, but in some musical scores, the bass has some good parts, from what I can hear.

I was just wondering because last year I had to play the bari sax parts in concert band, and some of the parts weren't that good. I had an awesome part in "Jaws" and an OK part in the "1812 Overture", but other that that, I was just holding whole notes throughout the song...

OK, I just read everything that everyone wrote on this topic and I must say this: THE ALTO IS THE BEST!!!!! ALL YOU OTHER PEOPLE MUST DEAL WITH IT!!!! I like the tenor sax (don't get me wrong), but the alto is soooooooo much better. I'm sorry, but it had to be said; all you tenor people combined forces and ganged-up on us alto people. It wasn't very nice...

cjbass, its just for fun, and yes, i know that all instruments have their place and there is no better or worse, just get over it, were having fun!
and i'd have to say tenor, but alto is fun to play, and so are baris.i wanna try a soprano... ( oh well, i love my tenor! )

Playing one of those rare saxes would be cool, too. Like a C melody sax or something...
