im learning tenor sax now (i know youre usually sposed to start with alto, but i like how tenor sounds better), and my band wants to incorporate it into a couple of our songs. it's a ska band, so it would have to synch up with the trumpets, but whenever we all play the same notes the sax sounds a little bit off. wikipedia says that trumpets and tenor saxes are both tuned to B flat. am i playin the right notes?

Find out what kind of trumpet your friend is playing on (the most common is Bb), the reason why we call it a Bb instrument is that when we, on saxophone play a C, it sounds like a Bb (concert) pitch, same thing on an Eb alto you play a C and it sounds like an Eb (concert). So a tenor can play off the same music as a trumpt. You may have a tuning issue, or the trumpet he is playing is not a Bb. Seriously check your tuning though, and remember that intonation is difficult to control on a saxophone, like middle D is very sharp.
