I would recommend S-H-I-N-E by stan getz, or his record with j.j. johnson at the opera house.

If you want really upbeat, than you may want to listen to arturo Sandival recordings, it`s usually him and a sax going nuts.

Sonny Rollins and John Coltrane are great, but for some newer stuff the cherrie poppin daddies are a great swing band.

The thing with kind of blue is that it has a lot of mid-slow tempo songs with HUGE solo sections that aren`t that action packed.

I don`t know if you would have heard of him or not, but Alex Dean is AMAZING!!! He makes saxophones do anything they are capable of and often pushes their physical limits. I had the incredible honour of performing with him with our jazz band at school and was in complete awe the whole time. The band he is with is known as D.E.W. East (the dew represents the 3 members last names). I highly reccommend it!
