i could agree that sax is pretty easy. I'm pretty sure almost anyone would agree that woodwinds are easier to play than brass. Almost everyone says that clarinet is harder than sax, but as someone who plays clarinet and tenor sax, i personally think that clarinet is easier just because on sax its really hard to get out the low notes with out jumping to the upper octave. So obviously its all on preference, and you should pick an instrument that you like.

In my opinion, the saxophone is one of the easier instruments to learn the basics of (such as the fingering system, embouchoure, etc.) but it takes a while to get it to produce a good sound that is in tune. I learned the saxophone quickly but then again, I learned the Clarinet quickly too

I've also heard the sax is one of the easiest instruments to learn. When I was first going to start to play an instrument, the guy at the music store told me that the sax and the flute were easier to learn for beginners.
I guess the sax is one of the easiest instruments to "pick-up" (not that I've played a whole lot of instruments ), but like any other instrument, the more you play it and the better you get, it's going to get harder because you will learn new techniques and play harder pieces...

I play bassoon for concert band and i wanted to join the marching band and it was a confusing situation but i had to learn sax in about 2-3 months........ not near as hard as bassoon fingering wise........ of course i myself haven't learned all the notes all the scales and when it gets to the harder rhythms it takes me a while before i can play it perfectly...... but for playing since may i think i'm doing really well.

hey matchbox,
I've heard it's an easy instrument to learn but a hard instrument to play. It's like learning how to play golf. Learning the basics of the game are pretty elementary but perfecting the game like a Tiger Woods takes skill, concentration, dedication, practice and the list goes on.
If you enjoy it and take up the challenge in the learning mode you will have great fun in expressing yourself and interacting with the audience and other musicians on the saxophone.
regards,
Don
