Hi I have just started playing saxophone and am faring well except I cannot play low notes without overblowing to the octave. How can I get rid of this problem? Thank you! Embourchere changes and throat positions are greatly appreciated...

Compared to clarinet you need to use a relaxed embouchure with plenty of air support.

Also it could be that the sax is not adjusted correctly even if new they can come out of the shop badly set up. First off get an experienced player (your teacher?) to give it a blow & see what happens - if there are problems for him/her it needs to be looked at by a repair tech.

Did you try to Open your throat? I know it sounds weird, But Imagine your yawning: then close your mouth. Now, put your lips around your sax with the correct Embouchure. Wha-lahh! You have low notes. its hard to get used to, but once you do, its like second nature. (this has worked for me.... not shure its a correct, or known tip..)

you need to keep you jaw low and blow fast air. if the air is slow it wont come out right
