Hi
I've been playing sax for a year or so, tenor & alto, & I thought I was blowing them quite strongly. But then I bought a trumpet and have been practicing on that every few days or so for a couple of months, and I find it incredibly difficult to play. It is about a hundred times more difficult than a sax, for me anyway, and fortunately I use a mute to protect everyone's ears.
However I find that now when I pick up a sax I can really blast out some awesome sounds without any effort. It seems that all the reaching & trying during trumpet practice has toned up all the necessary muscles and made it easy to take my sax playing to the next level.
I bought the trumpet & mute because it was cheap but I knew it was going to take ages to learn to play it well, and my main instrument of choice was the sax. But it looks like the trumpet practice has helped my sax playing considerably.
So even if you don't particularly want to play the trumpet you may find that practicing on one helps you to play the sax better.

Really? Ive found the opposite effect, (maybe cause i play trumpet more often than sax) but anywayz...i noticed that flute playing doesnt seem to KILL any of my instrument chops...IDK...
is flute a magical instrument?
LOL
But once you learn flute (it uses a ton of air) it really helps your breathe support with other instruments...

ok u say that it was easyer to play the sax after u played the trumpet. the reason it seems easyer is because when u switch to another insuterment it is way harder and u have to blow harder expessaly from a woodwind to a brass. so if u stop paying the trumpet for a long time u will think u r playing the same as before
