I currently play on vandoren java 3's and they sound the best but dont last long, all i do is take the reeds off the mp and whipe it with my fingers to get all the spit off and then into a reed holder, eventually within a week or two they get mold spots, what should i do?

If you are having a mold issue here are some tips.
1)brush, floss, and use mouthwash before you play.
2)at home buy a toothbrush just for your reeds. when you get home brush the reed with baking soda and warm water, then distilled white vinegar, and then rinse with water cold water.
3) go through your medicine bottles or jerky packages and find one of those disiccant packages (that keep things dry) and put one of those in your reed case. Or purchase a small reed case that has a disiccant system with it.

When I played sax I never had mold issues and I used Vandorens. So you are probably getting food particles and or germs on the reeds and when putting them in your case it is moist and humid. All these things contribute to mold growth. So clean yourself, clean the reed, and keep it dry. Any and each of these will help; but try to do all.

I'm sure there are other ideas out there.
