Stay away from Monique. They are made from cheap materials and tend to have intonation problems in the low end. They are cheap and easy to get and maybe ok if your a beginner. It will be hard to resell and depending on the ability of your local repair facility maybe unrepairable.

I`ve had a nickel Monique pro series alto sax for 6 years and I`ve treated it with care. It has taken heavy playing and has excellent intonation, even in the low range. What I discovered is that the intonation problems you are referring to stems from the mouthpiece model and not from the actual sax. I have personally had no problems with this line and have recieved numerous comments regarding my intonatin and abilities with this instrument. I play it with a Meyer hard rubber size 5 and Vandoren Java 2.5 reeds and it works for me!

I have to agree with that, I have had mine for almost 3 years and it has had NO problems. I use a Claude Lakey gold plated metal Mouthpiece with medium Lavoz reeds....no problems....it`s all in the mouthpiece though....a good player and mouthpiece can make a student horn sound sound great.

I have a silver plated pro series that I paid $325. I too play it with a meyer. It plays great and like a horn that cost much more.
