Forgive me for asking this but I am trying to start up my own private lesson studio right now and wish to see what people would like in their private lesson teacher. My studio is reasonable in price since I am a certified music teacher by the state of florida.
This studio is open to anyone who plays clarinet, alto/tenor saxophone and flute...beginners to intermediate.
My problem right now is promoting and see what people would like in a teacher so that I may make a little more head way to my dream of owning a private studio/music store some day.

As a teacher, and having been a student, I`d say that the best teachers are the ones who can get you to play well while enjoying yourself.

i understand that teachers get mad when students dont practice.. from personal experience, i am a student btw, but have fun with the student, dont be harsh, and dont assign easy music.., try to talk about things outside of music and get to konw the student, oh yea, always bring ur sax so you can play it for the student and not let the studnet just play themselves, i had a teacher taht did that, i hated it , playing it once and letting the student then play it helps alot

I agree that teachers are justified in getting annoyed when students don`t practice (although they should try to find out why before they get mad); what I hate is when you are trying your best to get something right and can`t and they get angry.

I had a personal tutor for app 6 years. He was very patient and open about practicing. One thing he done was give me a variety of music to choose from to suit my desire`s. He played with the Boston philharmonic for years so he was very into classical music. Yet he did not push it down my throat. Come from east Tennessee so country and bluegrass was large part of music I was exposed to. After you get the fundamentals down I think the teaching part should end and give way to molding the whole musician. It is nice for you to look for other opinions to better serve your students. Good luck and God Bless you.

The key to teaching music is in two philosophies:
Make music fun and they will become passionate
and
Make music passionate and they will have fun
I like the former for beginning students and the latter for older students.
