I was wondering whether it is easy for a saxophone player to play the flute. I am thinking of buying one and was wondering whether the fingering is similar to that of a sax and how easy is it to adapt to the flutes mouthpiece.

Any feedback would be much appreciated?

FINGERING IS ALMOST IDENTICAL ALSO TO PLAY AND BLOWING A FLUTE REQUIRES YOU TO WORK YOUR EMBOUCHURE ALMOST THE SAME FOR PROPER AIR FLOW. THE HARDEST THING FOR A SAXOPHONIST TO OVERCOME IS PUTTING TO MUCH PRESSURE ON THE MPC. I LEARNED A LONG TIME AGO CONTROL OVER YOUR DIAPHRAGM AND AIR CONTROL ALLOWS THE MPC AND REED TO DO THERE JOB AND THE END RESULT IS PROPER INTONATION AND CONTROL OVER YOUR HORN TO EVOKE ALL THE EMOTION`S NEEDED TO MAKE IT SING.

I just got done playing some carols on a cheap used bundy flute I got two years ago for fun, tho I`m mainly a sax player.

The fingerings are just about the same except the altissimo differs and the left thumb key(s) differ (on the flute you can go from b to b flat with the thumb).

Try it, it`s easy once you can blow a note--practice with just the flute mouthpiece until you can make a nice long even note, then use the keys--there are places on the web you can print out the fingering charts.

Gee, I guess I`m not the only one thinking of going from Sax to Flute! The only problem is that I can`t buy one and my parents won`t get me one since they`re renting an alto for me.

i glad to see there are some guys answerin herei was beggining to think i was alone. sax to flute is relitively simple. the bigger the sax u play the easier it is i think. i play tenor so it was too bad. it takes alot of air support to play. when i first started i wasn`t used to loosing so much air so quickly, so i fainted....i regained consiciouness later that day and put my flute in a corner and crawled in the fetal position. eventually u learn you can`t when u first begin practice flute for 4hours straight, standing up, don`t stand when u practice at first...

I play the flute and i`m only here b/c i`m bored. But playing the flute is easy.Word of advice when you first start playing the flute try not to play for hours straight, keep on stopping for breaks or else you`ll faint or your arms will feel like they`re going to fall off, and try not to slouch or your lips will hurt really bad(don`t ask me why,but they do).
