Kate

Soprano or Alto would be easier, but if you have a reasonable set of lungs you will handle a tenor OK, although your right thumb might suffer from the weight for a while! Hire one and have a go! Good luck.

i would never advise someone to start out on a soprano. first because it is a little bit harder, and second because no one has a use for it. there is virtually no music for it and no one uses it.

So alto would be best to begin with? I`m a guitar player and would like to try out the sax.

Hey my names William and take my advice: the tenor saxophone is the best instrument ever! i play the guitar, bass, viola, violin, bongos, congas, drum sets and alto sax but no instrument has given me the pleasure that the tenor sax has and my advice for learning is: get some instruction books and some charlie parker and john coltrane recordings. that wilol get ya goin

a sorpano sax has two main uses: to get you into a good colledge and the height of musical evoulution: jazz

I`ve been playing alto saxophone for 8 years and I think it depends on what instument you like better. Tenor Sax Rarely has Melody, but it is usefull is jazz. I think that if you like it you should take lessons.

I started sax on soprano (heheheh...) and I`ve been playing 6 months, and am playing stuff like Four, Well you Needn`t, and Straight, No Chaser. I think to learn any instrument requires lessons, and practice. Lots of practice (I did 2 hours a day for about 4 months).
