Hi everyone...I had few questions to ask.
Firstly, I have been told by many different people to
listen to a specific artist, among them Stan Getz, Sonny
Rollins, and Charlie Parker. Any advice on who to listen to for
a traditional jazz style?
Second, I have heard a lot of controvery regarding the
Vandoren Java series of reed. Any opinions??
Finally, if there are any professional jazz musicians out
there could you PLEASE contact me at silvaalto@netscape.net,
I`ve been trying to gather as much information as I can about
different things that come up through my playing experience.
Thanks everyone!

Hello. It seems like you are trying to find out how to improve your Jazz playing. I would suggest this: Buy as many Jazz cd`s as you can of the style you like. It doesn`t even have to be a saxophone player. However, I would reccommend Charlie Parker(he`s my idol!). He basically invented bebop, so if you like bebop jazz you might want to buy the Charlie Parker omni book and a few Charlie Parker cd`s.
About the Java`s, personally I am not a fan of them, but I would definitly suggest that you try V16`s(a must for jazz!) or the new ZZ`s. They are both great reeds. I would say get size 3 or 3 1/2, your choice. You don`t want anything to hard though, or too soft because if you play on them a lot they will get old fast. Or try a fiberglass reed, they last a long time and they are loud and bright, good for jazz. I`m not proffessional, but Jazz is my specialty.

Hi have a listen to Sam Butera who most often played with Louis Prima - he`s got a great sound. If it`s a raw sound you`re after, then Earl Bostick may be worth a listen. Good luck!
