I`m a young musician who already plays bass, guitar, piano and drums. I would like to expand my musical range into the vauge catagory of wind instruments. However, I`m wondering weather I should try to pick up the saxaphone first or the trumpet. Eventually, I would like to learn them both, but I`m wondering which one I should start out with first, if it realy matters. I haven`t much money, as I only have a paper route with only $50 a month so I could more likely afford a trumpet in the close future. Thanks for the input!

It would prove very hard to learn to play both saxophone and trumpet. Each would hinder your progress in the other, so you would unlikely become really great in either. My advice is to pick one and stick with it, then there are other instruments that make a sensible double, for instance both sax and clarinet or both trumpet and trombone.

I have only just began playing Sax, I have been playing for a week and can already play a lot of tunes, with squeaks here and there. I also play trumpet.. it takes a lot longer to reach a similar standard on the trumpet. I say learn Sax first.

I`d like to thank you all for the input. Now I`ll just have to scrounge up the money for a sax, and the time to learn. Any idea of what brand I should lean twards for a good price and good quality?

GET A TRUMPET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please get a trumpet. if you are worried about the money involved, a trumpet would be better cuz for the sax you have to buy reeds reeds reeds and MOST of the reeds don`t even work! (Believe me - I know- I`m a clarinetist) A trumpet sounds better, is a better instrument (by far), has better music written for it, is more versatile and the list goes on and on...I suggest buying a beg. "Holton" trumpet. Its a very good brand and will last you for a long while. if you have your heart dead set on a sax get a Selmer. But you should get a trumpet - its a live instrument bursting with opportunities for performers. Sax is stuck to jazz exclusively besides some dull band music with harmony parts constantly. You should not be stuck in a rut just because of your instrument!!!!
