Can anybody tell me if Bently saxes are any good? I have the opportunity to buy a new Bently alto for £500 when the rrp is £899.
Is it a good deal?
Thanks.

Rule of thumb is you get what you pay for. Normally, IMHO, when you haven`t ever heard of a horn before the retail price means nothing. The selling price means everything. You and I can actually import and sell horns from Taiwan or China .. and thus we would make up the retail price, then sell it for much less making it seem like a good deal.
I would normally stay clear of those horns. But there are some good Taiwan horns out there. If there`s not a website for bentley horns then more likely than not there no aftermarket support for it, which in itself isn`t very good.
you can always ask a sax tech about and take his recommendations.

I bought one right around the time you made your first posting.....it seems ok for absolute beginners. With a good reed I can get good intonation - mine happens to have some problem with the low notes in that C# and B are interchanged (reverse position of the left pinkeys)
..can`t ask for more at his level to just play something. I don`t know in a six months time if it will hold up we will see
