This usually means you`re putting too much pressure on you lip try to ease off a little and dont push down on your lip from the top, if this made sense i hope it helped

I found that my bottom lip hurts, too, after I`ve been playing a while. It`s toughened up a bit now, and putting less pressure on does seem to help.

my lips hurt too after a while...my drum major has been playing his sax longer than me and he said it`s normal and that it would help to space out your playing...by taking a break after every couple songs, i don`t know why...but thats what he told me...but 4 the blisters on the inside of my bottom lip...i got some cherry flavored teeth numming stuff...it works wonders..haha

Well the lip that hearts is totally normal. I play for quite a while and I still have it though I think that that specific part of the lip has actually becase tougher...
Though something that does help is to rest abit between songs (as said by others) and to blow air through you lips that it will sound abit like the noise a horse does...I`m searious! it works.
hope thise helps...

try playing with your lips in an exagerated form of the word "pooh". relax you mouth, only the corners should be tight, and your lips should go out, this might help, it`s good for people with thinker lips.

I have been playing over 9 years now...you build a tolorance for it over time and eventually it takes longer for it to happen. One way to avoid it is to get floral tape and mold it to your teeth. It prevents the indentation on your lip without affecting your tone.

Are you playing alto or soprano, if you are playing soprano than i know it is normal. That happens to me all the time. It starts to bleed after a while. Alto should not do that since it is curved more

I`ve havne`t played the sax in 3-4 years. i just picked it up again for a beauty pagent sake (male beauty pagent to raise money for senior prom) and my lower lip hurts a bit too. but that doesn`t bother me as much. i notice if i raise or lower the sax a bit i`m fine. But what does bother me is the "spit" sound i keep hearing when i play..... errrr

Embouchure is crucial when facing your problem. But even when playing with a perfect embouchure, rehersals and practice sessions lasting hours can wreak havoc on your mouth. I play my legit setup with wax paper sitting on my lower teeth. I take a piece of wax paper, cut it long with the width of my front 4 teeth, and cut an inch off from the end (this is to make it the best length). I take my wax paper strip, and keep folding it in half. Practice with the wax paper forawhile to get used to it because it is noticeably different. But it really does help to relieve pressure.

my friend u have the saxophone players calice. we all have it. and the size of your sax determines the size of the calice the smaller the sax the bigger the calice. it doesn`t feel very nice but it helps build endurance. eventually u won`t even feel the pain in your lower lip cuz of that calice. u just got bear with it right now until it and your lower lip[ develops some more. but the calice does start to get annoying after like 5years -_-... u can feel the roughness with your tounge. lol its worth t tho..sorta ^_^
