Hello I`m seriously considering taking up alto or tenor saxophone. I currently play electric guitar in a band and am at a high level of proficiency on that. I am curious whether its a bad idea to take up sax. Will my other skills diminish quickly? Also, what is the differenc in an alto and a tenor?

Hey,
i`ve been playing alto for almost 4years.I play the piano, too.I do not have any problems switching from sax to piano.I also know another alto player that also plays electric guitar and drums, and he is a really good player at everything.

i`ve been playing the piano and am doing my grade 3 i have recently taken steps to play the alto sax and i am loving every minute if it i find a good teacher will only teach u one instrument at a time and if you do waver slightly it`s only cos you want to improve at a faster rate ( this is a good thing and will also show an improvment with other instruments) i`ve no regrets and how i find the time is sax in the day and piano/keyboard at night or theory but it can make you feel knackered---good luk

yep, as long as you don`t stop practicing both...you`ll do fine. and the difference between the saxes is, well....it`s like the difference between your guitar and a bass guitar. They still are both in the sax family but ones lower than the other one. Go alto if you`re first learning to play...then get a tenor down the road if you`re still interested (and not a poor broke musician).

HEHE,i`m a sax player who just got an electric guitar. So i`m trying to play that. I grew up around my dad who played classical guitar. so i just figure i pick up a guitar too. I just think it`s gonna be a challenge. I couldn`t play clarinet too well, nor the trumpet.
