So does any saxophone who is in marching band go out for Drum Major(or plan to).Just curious because I really want to and feel I have a good chance at it, and just wondered if any others do too.

And if you are one is it a lot harder, easier, better,"cool"...?

yes i was going to go for it before i quit but we have had three drum majors in five years from the sax section so it doesnt matter what your from you can be drum major it doesnt make a difference. i think as sax you have the best chance because WE ARE THE HEART OF THE BAND HALLEHLUIHA

our drum majors were just the top of all who tried. my school had 2 drum majors who were both very good and all state players. We`re just a high school. I`m not in the marching band though, cuz it`s a drag with a director we have. All the band kids call him a nazi for his long hours, but still somehow Langham Creek HS still ends up as one of the top bands in texas.

I was a drum major for two years at my high school. Loved doing it too. I didn`t have to do all the memorization of music, marching drills, etc. as the rest of the band. I played clarinet and sax too so...anyone can become one. And you don`t HAVE to be the top of your section, but it helps especially if you want to coach some of the other players when they have problems with the music. Some of the things that help in getting a drum major role:
being outgoing really helps
making a lot of friends in the band so that they respect you
willing to do the work that a drum major does

Drum major duties change from school to school but I enjoyed it all. And if you are the only guy drum major, the girls keep an eye on you more (of course i mean to watch your tempo)
