So now i have my music for my audition for the college marching band. And u know they want scales, except now.. i`m on a yamaha yas-23, the mere perfect marching instrument (granted i didn`t march in HS). So i can`t play the high F#, do u think this will damage my chances of getting into the band?

Thanks guys.

I don`t know man... it just depends on what htey need you to play. You could always bend the hell out of the high F. (Worked for me)

`Cause if it`s a state school they won`t care one bit. They just want a big band to make their school look good and sound big. Only thing they might care about when you audition is for pep band for the basketball team. Those usually are a select few. And even then they only let upper classmen most of them time do pep band.

Hmmmm...just depends really. Texas is big on music and they have a lot of really good schools for music. If they are a school that has a really awesome music program, then yes maybe they will be pretty hard with auditions. However, I think most state schools are pretty lax with marching band auditioners. I know a lot of non-music majors who did marching band just for fun. Good luck.

I plan to go for the Univerisity of Houston.
They say the music program is really good hear or something. but someone i know, told the marching band that he wanted to play for them, and that he went to our HS, they just told him to come on down. He is a low brass though, so hmm.

i don`t think it will matter. if you can do your scales well all the way up to F you should do fine. i go to a community college and didn`t have to try out but things like allstate or allnorthwest competitions in HS that required scales didn`t require anything above F. but the altisimo range is kinda fun and may be something you want to learn anyway. it may come in handy.
