I`d suggest Vandoren java reeds. They have a thicker-than-normal tip, I believe, which helps create a jazzier sound. I`m not sure about mouthpieces.

If your really serious about jazz, get a custom built one (they still make them well in france), if your not as picky, i would go with a Vandoren mouthpiece, though they still are pretty good. Look for wide gap between the reed and tip of the mouthpiece, as this lets you bend in and out of tune easily. I play a Conn pre-10m Tenor (1933), and though this was the golden age for quality and tone, it was not as much for the natural intonation of the instrument. Bending is also VERY helpful in jazz, just incase your beggining.

Hi there Ashley.
You should try out as many mouthpieces you can
as possible, (meyer, berg, otto link, vandoren, those i think are the most common metal pieces! ebonit pieces!)
it all will seem very confusing at start,
but youll begin to think in a straighter line, like
which saxophone players do you like and the differnet sounds they produce like David sanborn or cannonball adderley, art pepper, Phil woods?
as another sax player it will be easier to recomend some mouthpieces for you if you know a bit more of which direction you heading?
the most importent thing is to remember to play and to practice, and then if you begin to ask yourself these questions about which sound youre looking for it will all come in time.

i think vandoren reeds are good for all woodwinds but as far as mouthpieces go their clarinet mouthpiece is better that their sax mouthpeice. if you`re really into jazz look for a meyer jazz mouthpiece. a very open, powerful mouthpiece. also keep in mind that its easier to play jazz on a standard mouthpeice than it is to play classical on a jazz. also a new mouthpiece espessially a jazz one will take some getting used to just don`t give up
