Do the Yani`s have in-line tone holes like the JK`s?

Buy A YANI they are better in terms of tone, clarity and crisp quality manufacturing they are specially individually hand-crafted in Japan. They are more powerful than Keilworths especially on the high notes. But if you want to have a more powerful sax - powerful enough to cut through a 9 piece function band, in terms of competing with trumpets & other horns buy a DAVE GUARDALA sax.
But with Keilworth vs Yani - definately a yani.

I HAVE A NEW YANI 9930 STERLIN SOP AND IT IS UNREAL. ESPECIALLY WITH THE BENT NECK AND A OTTO HR DOC TENNEY 7 MPC AND SUPERIAL REEDS. THESE COMBINED HAVE ONE OF THE BEST AND DARK DARK SOUNDS OF ANY HORN I HAVE HEARD. I HAVE PLAYED SELMERS SINCE EARLY 70`S AND THOUGHT THERE WAS NOTHING COMPARED. WELL I WAS WRONG IT WAS GREAT. NOT GETTING RID OF MY REF 36 BY NO MEANS BUT I WILL HAVE A YANI 9937 TENOR STERLING SHORTLY TO SEE IF IT HAS THE QUALITY OF SOUND THE SOPRANO HAS.

I had a silver Keilworth for a while. It has a beautiful tone, but I did find it a little awkward to play. I also didn`t think the intonation is as sweet as a Selmer. I play a SA80-2 now, and it is a better horn for me. But the tone of the Keilworth was really, really deep and rich and if I could have played it better I would have kept it. What the other guy said about the total setup: reeds, mouthpiece, etc. of course.
<p>
The Yanigasawa mouthpiece is awesome. It`s kinda like a better made Otto Link.
<p>
Yani`s are also great for sopranos and they make a sopranino which has perfect intonation so if your shopping for a straight horn go Yani.

i`ve just bought a new bb bari jk sx90 this very week. w its jk mp and n.3 rico jazz it sounds like it has an inner echo sound effect. the intonation is perfect. it is very fast and easy to play, it sounds like a violin. i previously owned a yamaha ybs32 bari wich is a very good sax also, but keilwerth is a real step ahead. in the shop they also had - and still have now - a 2nd hand yanis bari but i did not try it (which is not good, i admit): why have i gone straight to keilwerth and spent so much money? i guess i was looking for a horn with a "human" origin, something that plays well or bad too, but with a hand crafty character in its sound and gizmos. jk sound is great but i guess there something more also (the shipped keilwerth mouthpiece is great). that`s all, hi.

I have a yanagisawa curved soprano that is about 20 years old, the prima model. It plays greatly in tune and it sounds to me better than a mark vi. I played a yangisawa and a mark vi together and the yanagisawa had a lot better projection because it was curved and the sounded was more calm and not as bulky. My yanagisawa sounds great and that is what i would recommend. Keilworths are also good but they tend to be super bulky and a buzzy clicky sound. I hope this was a help.

I play a Selmer MVI Tenor and a Keilwerth SX90 Alto. I have played the Yani`s and although I do like them I never warmed up to the japanise sound and I am also of the opinion that the action on the Keilwerth is the best out of all three especially the left hand and palm key layout. The low Bb on the Keilwerths is also unbeatable. A good gauge is what is listed on eBay. You won`t find many Keilwerth Pro horns at a reasonable price because people don`t let them go. Yamahas and Yanis are a dime a dozen.

I would have to say hte Keithwerth SX-90R is your best bet for tenor. To be honest, they haven`t perfected their altos, but their tenors are masterful. My Keilwerth has been customized for my needs. I`ve had it re-voiced (shaving insude the neck to open up the high register) and my mouthpieces are all refaced and cusomized, so I have indded made this horn an investment. The consistency of theses horns is remarkable. I spent 8 hours at a music store play testing 8 of these same horns and they all played extremely well. I have owned Selmers and Yanis and I can say that the Keilwerth is a far better horn. Hard rubber mouthpieces really play best on this horn and you have an extended bow so that low register will sing and not blow sharp. (On every Semler sax I`ve ever played, the low Bb was at least 10 cents high) On the ol `werth its on the nose. When you`re testing a horn for intonation, tune middle B natural 1 to 2 cents flat.
Everyone needs to get a Keilwerth!

I have a Keilwerth Alto SX90R and love it. One of my favorite things about it are the adjustable palm keys. Yanigasawa altos and tenors i`ve played have uncomfortable palm keys for me but are nice horns. I would go with the Keilwerth because they are bigger horns and have more lacquer/plating options.

hi christy & everybody
why do you hate the selmer? not that i necessarily disagree, just curious get deeper in love-hate issue. for example, many say the actual usa selmer is not that good that old instrs used to be. what is your personal experience?
i posted one msg previously so you can have general view of my equipement. and yet, speaking about feelings, the instru i`m much fond of is definitely not one of the quality kind. it`s an alto sax i bought second hand 5 yrs ago in very baaaaaaaaad conditions. it`s marked "hoping" (sic) "super action" on the bell. for about 2 yrs i managed as sax repairer just for the case and after 1500 failures it got it right. shortly: charlie parker sound. a mighty sweet honey (otto link hard rubber 6*, 7*).
i don`t suppose you to do the same obviously. just fancying if others would like share any love-hate stories here.
ps: personal experience: flute practice is the best way to learn-consolidate: after that all saxes are toys.
cheers, franco.

It`s all about the yanagisawa. I play a 992 tenor and even though i`d love to own a JK im more than happy with my sax. The bronze of the 992 gives it a really nice resonant tone and with a good mouthpiece u can cut through any big band for a massive solo or merge in to be a subtle backing instrument.

forget about the selmer tho i think its got to be the yani

hey, i resently bought a new sax. i tried out to yani`s 901 and 902 and the keilwerth ex90, i prefered the keilwerth. Then i tried the pro`s, the Sx90R keilwerth was and is better FOR ME!!

what I`m trying to get at is that you cant go by other peoples reveiws, there saying what sax`s are best for them personally. they might prefer a yani or selmer or even yamaha or trevor James.

The thing is that its your personal choice and if your going to be pay the high prices that are asked for for these saxs then you would want the best for you and not a majourity vote from the internet. So go back to the shop try out for yourself the keilwerth against the Yani and decide for yourself what you like the best.
