there have been thousands of posts with people`s opinions on this subject matter all over this forum, so why the hell would you start a new thread to make people re-answer this unanswerable question? there is absolutely no way anyone can offer you an objective opinion on this matter because we will all be favoring our own interests. starting such a thread only results in nothing but subjective posts with personal arguments just waiting to happen. i don`t know how to nor do i want to put this gently, you are a fool for even having contemplated posing such a question.

To tell you the truth, I`ve been playing the alto saxaphone for just about 4 years now. And I personally enjoy it a lot. Even though i have never tried the clarinet, I think most people would probably think that the sax is a better. Hope i helped

What Jaan was saying was it is a personal opinion. I`ve been playing alto sax for over 30 years. soprano and tenor for over 20 years. clarinet for over 20 years.

which do i prefer? well, it depends upon the music i want to play. The sonorous deep tone of a cylindrical grenadilla wood bore is great while playing classical - aka, a clarinet. But then, sax is great too.

but for marching band play sax.
jazz saxophonist usually double in at least one horn, so playing clarinet and sax isn`t so bad.

hey, I`ve only been playing the alto saxaphone for 5 years and I just recently started playing the clarinet a year ago. Through my experience I`ve come to realize that both of them are equally great! You prob. thought I wuz gonna say the alto was better cause I`ve played it longer, but i think they`re both good. Both instruments are unique and special in there own ways. Then again if ur playing a specific type of music, then you`ll prob. want to choose which instrument would sound best. Like you`d want to play the saxaphone in jazz band just because it`s more of a jazzy instrument.

Ive been playing clarinet for 5 years and just recently switched over to saxophone, and i must say that the clarinet is the harder instrument to learn. although i appreciate the nice soothing music that the clarinet makes, i personally would prefer the saxophone

I have played Clarinet for 7 years now, and I just started sax about a month ago. I can say that Sax is more fun to play, (and easier) whilst Clarinet is harder to play and less fun, but in my opinion sounds way better than sax. So ultimately, I like Clarinet for sound yet Sax is more fun.

I played the clarinet for 1 year, then auditioned for the sax and have now played the sax for a year. I would definetly say that the sax is more enjoyable.

i play both; they are both very cool. start on clarinet first then switch to sax. if you master the clarinet, sax will ba a breeze to learn. clarinet has more range and is more difficult to learn. sax has less keys to learn but you have to learn to adjust your embachuer on the lower notes. learn both for the hell of it.

Hi I`ve been playing tenor sax for a couple years and a few months ago I picked up my cousin`s old alto clarinet. I think it depends on the music, but for marching back and jazz I think saxophone is way better. I personally find it more fun to play too However, if you are playing a classical song, or if you are playing in a concert band/orchesta, I think the clarinet finds it`s place more then the saxophone.

Hope I helped

I PLAY THE ALTO TENOR BARI AND SOPRANO SAX BUT I ALSO PLAY THE BASS CLARINET, BUT I LIKE THE BASS CLARINET BETTER BECAUSE YOU CAN GO REALLY HI BUT ALSO REALLY LOW THATS THE GOOD THING ABOUT CLARINETS

I PLAY BOTH CLARINET AND SAXOPHONE!

I love them both, clarinet for concert band and saxophone for marching.

It`s easier to be a saxophone and march....especially the tenor sax....because of where you are placed on the marching field and how the formations are.

Clarinets usually, in my school, have to know hard drill set ups where as us saxophone players get the mild ones....meaning we don`t have to get down on the floor and get dirty half the time because we are considered part of the low brass section and can`t move the saxophone as well as the clarinets can.

So In my honest opinion...they both are the same...just have to see for yourself which you like better.
