Well. yamaha is the best brand for intemmediate players so if u have been playing for 4 years You should try somthing a bit more professional, and as far as I know the ligature wont make the sound much clearer just make sure yours is tight and on the mouthpeoce at the right place. what type of reed do you play a 3 1/2 reed will give you a nice sound. apart from that you will have to practice away till you get that nice mellow sound

the key to sound is really in your embouchere and your mouthpeice. Different mouthpeices change the tone of the instrument. The reed is really based on the player. Its possible to get a clear, mellow sound on soft reeds as long as you`re embechoure is properly built, strong, and controlled. You`ll probably destroy soft reeds quickly, but the reed doesn`t matter as much as the mouthpeice and your own personal skill that comes with practice.
a 3 and 1/2 reed is good though, along with a good mouthpeice to start practicing with to get a mellow sound. Just remember, no matter how good a sound you can get, you can always make it better.
