I was wondering if the whole saxaphone family is so close that someone who plays tenor or alto could also play soprano. I have written a song for a jazz combo where I was invisioning the lead being played by a soprano. If I enter this song into a composition contest and win ( I hope I hope!), I would need to get a band together to perform it, but I don`t know of anyone from my school that plays soprano sax... or has one. So could a student who plays a dif. sax transfer to soprano? Thanks.

With a little time to adjust, yes.

i would get a sax player who also knows how to play clarinet, the fingerings are the same for all saxes, and the soprano embouchure is closer to a clarinets than any other sax

I dont play the saxophone (eventually i wish to learn it), but I know it can be done. I know a couple people who have done it, also one of my friends who plays the clarinet EASILY learned the soprano sax.
