(sighs) the only song with alto sax is hanoi rocks but its small and crap.

I was just browsing through and saw this strange message from none other than the pillsbury doughboy at the beginning of this forum. I also play alto sax in 8th grade and my nickname is PD/Pillsbury Doughboy. this is the wierdest thing i`ve seen in a while.

I just started playing saxophone this year and im playing at my school Bari,Alto,Tenor and its kinda difficult because our teacher converted our Band class to a Jazz band and i want to know if anybody can help me with reading music a little better or a trick to read music better. I know most of my scales but i`m a little hesitant when i play.

So I was reading through this stream, and I realized one thing: I`m probably the oldest one here. Freshman in college and I`ve been playing since 6th grade. That`s about....8 years. Anyhoo...I`m finally getting my collection of alto/bari music on my laptop, so I might be able to hook y`all up. But I`m warning you, some of it`s pretty hard stuff.

try looking up `transcriptions` or `transcribed music` instead of `free sheet music`.
Geez! all these little kids on here: 6th, 7th, 8th . . . I`m a senior. (yeah, yeah, yeah, not much difference, i know) i think it`s funny to hear everyone talk about how fantastic they are, or how their music is way too easy.

There are a lot of ways to `challenge yourself`. (Although I wonder how many are actually that much better than their classmates.)
a) does your school go to district solo competeitiions? that`s a great way to challenege yourself!
b) (replying to an earlier thread) use the time you play your bari sax (i.e. practice) to develop your vibrato and low notes.
c) get a hold of some basic jazz patterns (or hard ones ) and give those a whirl.

concert band is not about being an individual, it`s like a sports team, you have to work together and everyone`s `job` is important even if it is simple.

Wow, you guys. All you need to do is look up a local sheet music store and go there. If you are looking for more challenging solo music, then I`m sure they will be able to help you with that.

If you`re feeling bored in band class, then try some extra-curricular musical activities. Try a summer music camp. That`s what I`ve been doing for the past 4 years. Not everyone in your band class may be as committed as you are.

I realize i may be a little old for this website but I am in college right now and trying to pick up the sax. If anyone has any good sites where I could snag music that would be great. Thanks.
