Hi, I`ve been playing saxophone for almost three years now, but I`ve played flute for five. Last year in my school`s Concert Band I played flute.
But this year my teacher wants me to play sax. Since I haven`t played sax since grade 9 (I`m going into 11), and played flute last year, I went to start playing sax again and I had the hardest time even playing a simple song.
So my question is, Was playing the flute for a year is wrecked my sax embuchoure or was it because I didn`t play sax for over a year?

i`m just taking a guess but i think not playing sax but flute for a year prolly wrecked you embuchoure. because i know if i don`t play sax for a month i my jaw muscles get tired really fast. it might be because you haven`t touched it in such a long time you also forgot how to hold your mouth and stuff while your playing it. i wouldn`t worry about it, you`ll prolly be back to normal in a while, just practice lots.

I`d say it was not playing the saxophone that did it.
I play clarinet, and if I neglect my practice for even a week,my embouchure goes down the drain.

Clarinet has a much tighter embrouchure than sax. I play clarinet too. But I practised for about an hour the other day on the sax and I sound much better.
