I`m in a marching band.. and i know nearly all the brass instruments... then now i want to try to learn the saXophone... but is it okay for a brass player to switch to reed instruments? ... will it damage my embouchure?

a brass player, trumpet, trombone, tuba, bariton... can also learn sax, of course with no harm to embouchure.
I play trumpet, tuba , clarinet, flute and sax in my community band. It`s fun.

hmm... sorry.. i thought i only had time to type a short reply .. but.... actually i have more time...

Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge, .. my band is a rather small one, no tuba... just trombone, trumpet, cornet and baritone in the brass section... and we only 1 saxophone... so i might need to get my own saxophone if i want to play.. should i get a brand new students model or a secondhand "intermediate" one... (if there is such thing) .. and what should i look out for when i`m buying a saxophone?

Yes they can , I started on trombone. Been playing it for 8 years, then decided to switch to Alto Sax. Been playing Sax for about 7 years. And its all good to me. So go for it. Later!

Of course they can. I play trombone in jazz and bari for concert music. They`re both a lot of fun. The hardest part for me was getting used to the taste of the reed, but that soon disappears.

For an instroment choice, it depends. Do you plan to just march with it? What about concert season? I use a Bundy or a BundyII to march with. Since woodwinds have damage potential when marching, they are somewhat expendable, as they are student horns. They work OK in concert and are cheap; some would say they are crap; but the player makes the sax. Perhaps they play crap? For concert I use a Selmer. Real nice; the best. Keilworth is good. Depends on your $$$.
