I would like to learn sax... i`m narrowing my choices to two, either alto sax or tenor sax. I would like to know which one i should take?? soprano`s nice, but i`m not really so interested to learn it.... besides, as I am unable to borrow a sax, i need to buy my own..but i have no experience with reed instruments and haven`t tried blowing a saxophone....... so is the tenor or alto more expensive and whats the price difference in general?? i have to consider all aspects before choosing... but sooner or later i hope to learn different types of sax.
thanks for reading and please help me out.. =)

the alto is going to be cheaper, just because its smaller, by a couple of hundred bucks. maybe more or less it really depends on the model of the instrument. i learned on a tenor though, and it made a lot easier to learn the other saxes. but most students start on alto, although they dont go on to play the others. but if you would like more info email me.

get a tenor. or if you don`t then start on tenor. tenor is like the best sax horn(my opinion). a good tenor horn will cost you about a fifteen hundred. but i wouldn`t recommend you buying a horn right away if you don`t know how to play it yet. so again, start on tenor cause its like the boss horn. not that there`s anything wrong with the alto......

tenor is very good to learn, mainly because of the tonality of it. Also, it is very easy to learn sax if you played clarinet or recorder before.
Tenor is very popular among rock bands and is usually the main choice for soloists.
Alto however is probably made for a more prettier tone and used mainly in romance-type songs and jazz.

Get an alto becase they`re cheaper and tenor sax is really cool but its not any diffrent once you play an alto or any sax you can instantly play the others because all the fingerings are basicly the same. i would suggest an alto for a begginer and i learned on an alto and if i could go back i wouldent change anything one thing though if you do buy an alto do NOT get a conn they are really conning you out of your money and i have one they suck badd i shouldve got a better alto to start like a selmer
