Hey guys!!!
I play tenor sax and I love riffing around and having fun trying to play all those famous jazz and rock and roll sax solo`s. I just won`t feel complete without that growl sound. Can anyone give me some tips????

Try humming while you play, it produces a nice, even growl.

Ok, that way is ok i guess, but it can hurt your throat. Try lightly humming a different note then the one you`re playing, It is easier and will give you a more strident and growly tone. On dance band solo`s and rock solo`s I play with a growl...it`s fun sometimes.

Ok, I`m a seventh grader in jazz band, lead tenor, and how is it possible to hum well you play? Can you explain that to me? But on a different note, if really want your sax to growl get an older sax, they just dont make`um like they used to.

Just hum, then put your sax in your mouth, and experiment with it, it`ll come if you want it to.

What are you talking about? I could growl in 6th grade, the same year I started saxophone. Age doesn`t matter. It`s actually quite easy to hum and play, but it takes some coordination at first, and more skill than you might think to continue humming for awhile. It`s just a matter of practicing.

I thought 7th graders knew how to spell? grage, agrey? Just a thought, look over your messages before you post...everyone makes mistakes, it`s just unpleasent to read ones that have issues with simple words.

Hope I haven`t come across mean or offensive, it`s not that way and if you think it is....go suck a lemon!
