ok i dont know exactly wat yall are talkin about with this growling thing but ive found that if you finger low c without the f key (right index finger) it makes a pretty cool noise, but i can only do it on that one pitch so i guess humming is still ur best bet if you can do it

I growl two different ways 1. I hum while i play. I dont really know what note im humming it just happens. 2. This might be called something else but another method i use is using your tongue in a fluttering movement on the roof of your mouth while you play. It`s like how you make a machine gun sound with your mouth, or how in spanish you roll your R`s. In the movie "Pulp Fiction" the scene where they say bring out the gimp theres this mean sax song that has this guy doing it

To all those young players,
Learn your hurn first, them learn all the accessories to your main toolbox, your saxophone technical skill, more important than that, your musicality.

Yea. It`s the Alex from replying in the frist page, and i have changed my playing ability alot now that im in 9th grade. Growling was hard at first but that tip from some guy saying to hum then bring the mouth piece into your mouth while blowing helped. So did the humming a third above the note your humming. I did understand the sqealing on a high note, but i guess that is growling on a high note (maybe?). Growling is alot of fun though, it was worth practing to learn how. I can`t believe two years hav gone by.

You need to make sure that the reed is correctly placed on the mouthpiece, and check to make sure that all of the pads on the sax seal correctly, other than that, I don`t know how to help you.
