seems that the clarinet has a bigger range than alto sax.. can the altissimos increase the range until it`s bigger than clarinet`s range?

Hmm.

Alto Sax can most of the time play (if you`re good at altissimo) a Double C. Clarinet cannot achieve this height, the highest part I`ve ever seen goes up to a Double G.

altissomo is the range beyond your normal fingers....three to four lines above the staff.

I personally haven`t notice much difference between the two but then again I only play tenor sax for the main reason that it goes lower then my clarinet and is easier to march with.

( jared ) !

Both are jazzy, i would say Sax is more, but remember in the end YOU are the one who should be jazzy !! Then use the instrument to reflect your emotions ! Alto Sax is a good choice for a beginner. Just listen to different recordings and see which sound you like more !! Get the instrument !

I play Flamenco Guitar, Alto Sax and Clarinet ! i simply LOVE all of them and each Instrument has it`s own tone dimensions and Dynamics.

It is initialy easier to blow a Clarinet; but to get "good" requires much more later on. Of course, your sax skill will feed off to your clarenet skill; the other way around and so on. Its all in the emcouchure. (well, most of it)

What is more jazzy, a clarinet or cornet? It simply depends on your skill at whichever instroment.

Well, keep in mind that a clarinet has an altissimo range just like a saxophone. And as you know on the saxophone, how high you can go just depends on the skill of the player; the same is true on the clarinet. So really you`re asking sort of an unfair question in that it`s not the instrument that`s going to be limiting your range; it`s the person behind it. Sax, clarinet, it doesn`t matter. Each one can squeak pretty high.
