I seem to have someone else on my side, too. Sir Fett seems to agree with me on the subject. Thank you everyone else for going back to reeds...and I`m not going to turn this into a petty argument regarding how dumb random posts regarding random subjects are, and how those posts are valid. If anything, that argument would be more of a waste of space than anything anyone else would post. Such an argument would be wasteful and pointless, therefore any other posts in agreement or disagreement is technically considered spam, because they do not have a meaningful purpose. I will, however, continue the reed conversation, because that is cool, and I like reeds. I heard that the flavored reeds are disgusting, they sound like it...and plus I hear that they play terribly. Oddly enough, I play on simple Rico Royals and enjoy them very much...but I don`t really collect reads on purpose, I do have a large and inadvertant collection building up around my room. They`re everywhere.

Don`t think they are, I think that Rico is a separate company than Vandoren, in fact I`m almost certain. Vandoren also makes other instrument parts, such as ligatures and mouthpieces. Back when I was using a rubber Claude Lakey, I was using a gold Vandoren Optimum Ligature for Tenor Sax, it had 3 interchangeable plates, and played very nicely. I favored it highly over my Rovner that I was using beforehand.

Yes, I think I might`ve heard of Zonda before...I`ve also heard that making your own reeds is much better, I`ve seen some reed making devices. I think that it`s cheaper overall, and you can craft your reeds to the way you want them...

wow, you really do know ALOT of reeds. thats awesome. We only knew like 5 before haha. Well, at most band camps there is a reed-making course which i would love to take...but you have to play a reed instrument...haha, that reminds me of the time my clarinet friend took jazz at band camp and everyone laughed at her, but as another forum on this site says "is jazz clarinet a crime?"

I really like jazz clarinet...well, not in a quartet or anything, more or less in big bands...on songs like "The Mooche", "Moonlight Serenade" or "Fascinating Rythm". Those are some great songs, and the clarinet parts are beautiful. But the really cool song, in my opinion, is "Sing Sing Sing", now that`s a cool song.

Actually, I`m a 17 year old who plays saxophone(started on alto in 6th grade, moved to tenor), and clarinet on the side. My jazz band at school is small, and I think only about 3 people in there(including me) like it or jazz period...so nobody really practices and sometimes we don`t sound so great. I just like talking about a shared interest. I think the key to sounding great is one thing: ENJOY YOUR INSTRUMENT. Have fun with it, explore it, it will only get more interesting.
I play a size 7*3 metal yanagisawa mouthpiece, on a T-990 Gold Lacquer Tenor saxophone, and size 2.5 Rico Royal reeds. What`s everyone else`s setup?

Tuxedo Junction is the best jazz song, no the best overall song, EVER. Not those new "interpretations", no, the good old stuff with Ellington, big band. screaming trumpets. yes, THATS jazz. ~Mia
