hello, I`ve written a message about getting started with saxophobe about a month ago. and yesterday i got my second lesson .
my teacher briefly explained to me how should i tune my sax. i guess he didnt pay much attention to it because it is only my second lesson and I`m only practicing very simple notes.
ok.. so im starting to practice, and naturally i wanted to tune the sax. but i noticed that when i play B on my sax it sounds like c# on my piano.. is it normal??

u do realize they r in different keys right? if ur playing the tenor of saprano, ur b should be an a on the piano. if ur playing the bari or alto, ur b should be a d on the piano. i forget how to tune exactly...push ur mouthpiece in if ur flat i think...and pull out if ur sharp but i would ask ur teacher!

If you`re flat push in, if you`re sharp, pull out.

Tuning a sax isn`t all in the instrument. You have to use your embouchure (your oral region, including lips, toung, jaw, throught, etc...) to raise or lower the pitch. As you may suspect, tightening your jaw and closing your throught more will raise your pitch up, and lowering your jaw will bend down. Your instrument shouldn`t be so out of tune that you have to bend a half, or even 1/4th of a step. If you play alto, bari, or contrabass (unlikely), your concert Bb(tuning note) is G (meaning your G is the piano`s Bb). If you play supprano, tenor, or bass, your concert Bb is C.

Hey every1. Ok, so I got a new saprano sax for Christmas. I play the alto and the baritone in band and i am starting to play the saprano, but the problem is, I don`t no where to find music for it. If any1 knows where to find free sheet music for a saprano sax please e-mail me at sexysax.msn or bulldogbabe2004@yahoo.com.
Thank you,
Laken

Sop music is out there, but not in plentiful supply. I have a ton of clarinet music which i use (but you have to make sure that it doesn`t go above or below the sops range). and I also just transpose piano music, or use Bb trumpet music.

my teacher alwaystold me to play the g above middle c and that should sound like a Bb on a piano or a tuner or whatever.in time you will be able to know when its out of tune and then change it.like someone else said its also about your emboursure(sorry im a terrible speller )so if your lips arent tight enough or they are too tight or your throat is closed up etc etc it will affect the pitch
