Hey, I know. I`m in 7th too and the school band music is so boring. But luckily I`m also in the jazz band and that`s really awesome. Try getting a private lesson if you`re bored with you`re music.

what about some ska? it`s rather easy to play... problem is I suck at harmony since I ain`t in no school band... all my friends play alto sax as well and it sux cuz we need like only 2 altos and a trombone/baritone + trumpet... anyway I think you won`t have problem playing along Save Ferris or Reel Big Fish songs or whatever... peace! have fun

Ska, i tried to be in a ska band once, ska is not jazz, therefore ska is inferior.

ok, an aebersold is just a book out of like 110 that jamey AEBERSOLD makes, improvisation means you play and make up music on the spot based on chord changes.

Yes, ska is not cool. Jazz is, though.

I don`t think the joy of improvisation can be matched by much, no distorted guitar hammering out the same chords over and over, nor some vocalist singing the same notes...it`s in my opinion, the true meaning of music, where an artist can most freely express himself.

Band hasn`t been boring in a long time. Our band music is pretty cool to me. Mainly because the altos have the majority of the melodies in our songs along with the clarinets. And in jazz band, I have most of the solos on my tenor. So that`s pretty fun. Of course, my instructor chooses solos depending on what instrument I`m playing. Well, hopefully I`ll be able to dump the tenor after this year is over and stick to the alto in jazz. Hope you find more challenging music.

We kicked that song out the door months ago. We can play it perfectly/. Right now were doing te ET theme and im a beleiver...aztec celebration and some other thing. he 8th graders get to play march militaire and stuff.

Ska really isnt that bad if you look at it in terms of soloing. There are plenty of ska bands that do totally instrumental cd`s and songs. Check out Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra (Japanese Ska Band). They took, tin tin deo and made an absolutely wonderful rendition. Although, Ska is a lot easier than jazz is. With the harder jazz, you will have inverted chords, and you have to know your scales...with ska, basically to start off all you need is a minor scale and upbeet rythm section. Both are great to expand musical intuition.
