Everyone says that Tenor is better, and I have no clue. I was wondering about the difference in tone and prices of a tenor vs. an alto. I really love Saxophones and hope to full-fill my dream of playing one. I plan on joining an instrumental band playing guitar and sax. I have been playing guitar for about 3 years now. Thanks for the help.

Tenor sounds more mellow then alto in my opinion and I love the fact that we get to play both melody and harmony in our parts.
As for pricing....it`s about $200 to $300 more than an alto depending on the dealer, brand, and area.

i have to dissagree i love alto sax`s as you can play all the boring stuff but you can also play fun stuff and hit notes better. i play alot of pop music on my alto and it sounds great.it may seem a bit high at first and sharp but when you get better and start using harder reeds it will sound ... cant describe it but its nice! i have a tenor sax and i mhardly use it but i suppose it depends what you want to play on it and also alto`s are also alot smaller and lighter and if you do think of buying an alto make sure you go for a high F# plus i advise beginners to go for the alto sax (im a sax dealer so trust me on this one)
