oboe to sop sax?    08:56 on Sunday, November 21, 2004

i have played oboe for about a year but i am not happy with it. i believe i would be happier on a saxophone as the fingering is almost identical to an ooe and the embochure is similar to clarinet which i also used to play. i am thinking about getting a straight soprano and quite like the look and sound of the JINYIN - Soprano Sax Bb - professional - nickel plated body and keys

do you think it will be an easy transition from oboe to sop, and also does anyone know anything about this sax?
thanks

jim

if you switch to soprano sax (or any sax for that matter) your oboe embouchure will NEVER be the same.. just letting ya know that... for some reason saxes are evil that way... either pick one or the other...

im actually giving up the oboe for a variety of reasons. in the past i have also played bass clarinet, but when i start sax it will be my only woodwind instrument. (i am primarily a classical guitar player with my second instrument as double bass!). Sax would be purely for fun. Do you think the transition would be easy enough?
