I have the same problem...I`ve been playing Tenor for years but just recently started on the Soprano...all the other notes I can play fine but that D is just weak...what`s the deal?

There are a few explenations that may help. One is that, since you switched from tenor to soprano, your mouth has not built up yet.(I had a problem with tenor after I played sop) But most likely a spring or the pad is off/torn/warped. I`d suggest taking it to the director or a music repair shop. Hope it helps!

By the way, what kind of sax/what condition are the saxes in?

Also, check the necks; they might not be tight enough, or the octave mechanisnm might not be aligned properly.

oh how embarassing! and I call myself a sax player! thanks Wildband for the tips...my soprano is brand new so I didn`t think it was any technical problem...and my mouth not being strong enough, I thought possibly, but then why could I easily get the notes above D? but then you mentioned the neck not being in tight enough...you see the thing is that on my Tenor, the screw that tightens the neck broke years back in a way that you can`t get it out, but it was still holding it tight enough for it to work, so I hadn`t tightened that screw when putting my tenor together for years...so naturally, when I got my soprano, I didn`t tighten it either...anyhoo, the D sings beatifully now...thanks!
