I started playing the saxophone about 4 years ago but haven`t played for about a year. After getting my saxophone out of its case it has what looks like rust on it. There is only a small amount on the outside of the sax, but on the inside it is alot worse. Can this be sorted out? And how do I prevent this happening in the future? I thought I had taken relatively good care of my saxophone...

no, rust is like aids. you can treat the symptoms, but not cure it. You can dust it off, use damp towel to clean it, but sooner or later, it will come back again. I don`t think there`s a way to clean it unless you "paint" a layer of very very thing copper/tin inside, and if you need instructions on that, i can help you. Or, you can get a new one if the old you have is in bad condition and is not of a good brand

You know how if you leave your read on your mouthpiece for a while it gets mouldy? well that`s also related to rust, except it`s with saliva. You should get a pull through. You can buy these at any good music store or you can make one yourself by getting a tea towel or rag or something, and attaching a weight onto it with string. From there you drop it in at the top of your sax, and when it reaches the bottom (because of the weight) you pull it out and walla!!! clean beautiful salava-less sax, ...this will hopefully stop your rust problem. hope ive been helpful!!!
