After the yesterday test, where I met a guy also playing ALTO sax , I felt I counldn`t jump to another side so easy.I`ve still got many things to learn on ALTO ones.

So could you recommend some ALTO saxes wich are perfect for jazz ? I wanna play something by David Sanborn. That requires a lot of expanded notes(Well, any other name of this ?). which model and which mouthpiece is better for this ? thanx .

and some experiences about techniqe are also appriciate !

pretty much the same brands I stated last time; a eal good jazz mouthpiece is an ottolink, though I use a selmer s-80 C*(something like that) and change my mouth positionings for more jazzy tones. Try the two out (and maybe some others) and pick what you like best. More question? just ask

Really thank you ,Wildband

What`s about the "Dukoff" ? they often talk about it ~

and I`m planning to have two jazzy mouthpieces , one is from SELMER maybe, and the other one I`m still considerin~

p.s. Could anyone tell me what should i call the note with a extra high pitch ,the ones beyond the normal range? Well, I mean , I can`t find it in a dictionary ....

The high notes are called altissimo. If you want to sound like Sanborn, he plays a Selmer Mark VI with a dukoff metal custom mouthpiece. Spend 25 years on the road and you`ll have it. For a great open contemporary jazz sound I recommend an LA Sax.

Well~ What`s about the Yanagisawa ? How is it doing for a Jazz tone ? And which openings are oftenly used for jazz ?

Really lots of quesions , thanx .....

There are many good horns on the market for any type of sax playing. I have never played a Yanagisawa but they are supposed to be good. Yamaha makes good horns, Selmer makes good horns, but in the end it is a matter of taste. Your mouthpiece/reed setup will influence your sound greatly. The "sound" you are looking for will be greatly influenced by this setup. I played a Selmer Mark VI in college and have played some professional Yamahas, but I bought a LA Sax because I liked the free blowing quality of the horn. If at all possible you should play a horn before buying it. All saxes are different, even in the same model. If you have played for a while you will know the horn for you as soon as you play it. Assuming you already play, try to find the mouthpiece/reed setup which gets you closest to the sound you want. Do this with your current horn. Once you get this setup where you want, then take some horns for a test drive.

haha ~ thank you Ramir !

I`m looking for a horn by which I could produce overtones more easily~ I like the Sanborn`s sound ~ That needs lots of overtones ~ the aggressive ones ~~~
