I play alto sax and I`m allowed to get a sax for my B-day ,at first I wanted to get my own alto but then I thought I would get a Tenor because it`s a great intrument. My friend let me try her saprano and I love it, after that my music teacher told me I might be our schools next baritone sax player.
Which one should I get?

Try a tenor and see what you think. I would NOT recommend a baritone--they get in most cases, more boring music, a lot of baseline, and it`s harder to find numerous Jazz stars that played baritone. But I would try them all out, listen to music of them, and figure out which one you like best. My vote is of course Tenor, best of all of them.

I thought we already discussed this matter and you decided on Tenor? IF you don`t get a Tenor which would be my choice, I would highly recommend a Bari Sax, it can sing with a voice that rivals a Tenor, it`s a beautiful instrument. But Tenor is arguably the best.

Not going to happen here. Looks like there`s only about 4-5 people who post often anymore.

I would get a bari cuz they rule! They have the best parts in jazz, rock and funk music etc. It may be boring bass line stuff in a concert band but if you can make it sound fat it will still rock!

Good, playing clarinet in concert band + sax in jazz band is a very good idea, make sure you play jazz on your clarinet though too!

Also....jazzy jessica, I would strongly recommend you to buy a "abersold" any music store carries them.....

What it is:

It has a c.d. with it which plays a song, just bass piano guitar druims or whatever they put in.....you are the soloist, you play the song that`s written-if you want- and then improvise....improvising is just making music up on the spot.....you`ll progress SO much faster and have so much more fun.
