Get a bari!!! There a tons, and I mean tons of famous bari soloists. Gerry Mulligan just to name one. They are so much fun for solo work. If you get really good, a bari sax can cover 5 octaves(using altissimo fingerings of course), more than any other sax.

I know that I use Aebersolds everyday for about a half an hour at the least, it`s such great practice. I think improvising brings joy reading off a page can`t. It`s true artistic expression.

Uh, "tons" of famous bari players, compared to what? famous jazz oboeists? There`s mulligan and that`s about it on recognized jazz musicians. bari covers the least amount of octaves than the other saxophones, minus soprano of course.

I first started on Alto, but when I started my freshman year of marching band they switched me to tenor because no one else would do, and I will admit I thought I was going to hate it. I seriously thought about quitting band. BUt once I played it I loved it, I have been playing tenor every since and my band director said that I will play it until I graduate. So I highly HIGHLY recommened a tenor. You wont regret it.

Bari would have to be the most boring instrument in both of those bands....sorry, but bass lines? Wouldn`t you rather be featured and get a huge feature solo?

I have played alto bari and tenor. i liked tenor the most cause it has a nice smoothe feeling to it when i play it and you can still play important parts or boring parts.

try wat u feel to be the most comfortable. soprano can be difficault to play in tune and is mostly a solo instrument. I play tenor; i`d say stick with that or alto. You get more of the melody in jazz with these than bari, but u can use alto parts for bari. Low notes on tenor can sometimes not come out very well, bari and alto has the best range. Tenor though needs a bit more practice

Sorry, but the bigger the sax, the bigger the range, I play bari sax professionally and I can easily reach 5 octaves. You CANNOT accomplish this on any other sax.

i played alto in marching band, and tenor in concert band. i liked both if them a lot, but i would suggest you buy a tenor. lots of fun to play if you like the lower notes. go for a tenor !

Tenor of course. I`ve played alto for 5 years... and then i picked up a tenor for our schools sax ensemble. i loved it. i played bari and it was alright. i don`t like soprano because it`s just a gold clarinet. ew... clarinets are such weird people. trust me and pick tenor.

Hey,clarinet rocks, I love my clarinet more than any of my instruments. It`s my favorite, even over my sax.

I saw that you should play the tenor because it`s pretty cool. my friend has one and she said that it is not hard. And plus i tried it. That`s why I think that you should get a tenor.
