I have an old alto sax that my dad bought off ebay (and you can all just shut up, cuz it works fine.) It says `MEXICO` under the numbers `N 41018`. Also interesting about it is that the two big keys contolled by the pinkie table of the left hand are on the left side of the sax...opposite most altos...and all other saxes. So...what`s up with that?

My younger brother has one too. He found it deep in a storage room in his school`s band room, collecting dust about a year ago. His teacher said "Just take it, we don`t want it".

It`s not very playable, but its cool to look back on what saxes used to look like. And yes, that is how Conn made their saxes back in the 20`s-40`s.

I, personally, prefer my new Selmer.

What you have in your posession is either one of the best saxophones ever created (Conn 6M), or a basic student model (Conn Shooting Star). What is on the engraving on the bell of the horn? If it has a portrait of a naked lady, it is the conn 6M "naked lady", if it has art deco engraving it`s a 6M transitional, and if it has shooting stars and fireworks, its a shooting star. (Finish is irrelevant)
I have no idea what the mexico means.

The Mexican made Conns are of a much lower quality metal than the older models. If your Conn was made in Mexico, it is one of the infamous Mexi-Conn horns. Conn had moved production to Nogales, Mexico, and while the basic design remained the same, the quality of the materials continued to diminish. So the horn CAN sound nice, but it is notorious for being EXTREMELY FRAGILE. Good luck with it.
