Hi, I`m new to the saxophone thing. I was thinking about getting into it, but I realized I had no idea which range of sax is good for certain types of music. I kinda want to get into the smooth jazzy style...which range would be best? Is there a huge gap between ranges? Can anyone give me specific octaves for each range (e.g. Eb2 - Eb4 or something)? Thanks.

There is no real range...like if you just played between G# and G# an ocatave higher, it would sound very bland. Use all your range, (Bb-F#) or above if you can do altissimo. I love jazz and I use all my range to do it, but if you want it smooth i would suggest some low notes and the occasional jump to some higher notes. You should look up some licks if you really want to get into jazz.
