Um, yeah get a neck strap. One should come with a sax you buy.

Every person I know uses a neck strap, you just can`t support the sax properly without it.

For Bari sax i would recommend a harness, (better support for the weight) but for tenor, alto, and soprano, use a neck strap. The best one to get is one that will not slide down when weight is applied, (i know none of them should but they do) this way everytime you play your sax, your embouchure should stay in the same position. I like to stress to students, that a strap that locks (not just an open hook) to your sax is essential. It could save you from some costly drops, i know i have been there.

I don`t believe that there are any do-it-yourself sax scratch repair kits out there. I don`t think you really need to worry about it. They don`t affect the sound of the instrument in a way that is even remotely noticeable.

As for the visual part of it, I have had my Selmer Series 2 for about a month and it already has "minor scratches" on it. Just try not to dent the neck like I did...

I also don`t think there is a really effective way to repair the lacquer in one specific spot on the sax. If the scratches start to become really noticeable, then you can get the sax re-lacquered, but that costs a huge pile of money. After that, it never really has the same sound as it did before.

Just try and avoid making the scratches major, and you`ll be a-ok.
