Just wondering how much everyone devotes to practice time.
I try to spend at least 3 hours a day, which is pretty difficult when I work full time and go to school full time.
The first hour I try to dedicate to warming up which includes scales, chords, longtones and embouchure excercises.

I split my time into 30 minute intervals due to work, teaching lessons, going to school, taking care of a family, etc.
Mostly it`s only 2 hours though.

30-45 minutes per day. Plus the time I spend playing in jazz band, concert band, pit orchestra, and private lessons.

You must be a very busy musician...

Well, I tend to go in shifts with my instruments. Between them all, I`d say it isn`t uncommon to get anywhere between 1 and 4 hours a day, depending on if I have something amusing to play.
Around allstate time, it was a lot of practicing on piano and sax.
ANd in a month or so I`ll be perfecting the music for the musical, so that`s gonna take some time.

it all depends how/what I`m practicing. If at any time I`m working on a piece of music, that`s giving me difficulty, I can practice 2-3 hours a day. However, when I`m working on my individual skills, I bottom out after an hour. An hour of longs tones, over tones, altissimos, scales, patters kills my chops. What kinda warm up routine do you do?

I try to practice 2 hours a day on saxophone. At least half an hour per day is dedicated to piano, and random time I have is dedicated to my recent addition of alto recorder. Note that all of this is on top of regular rehearsals, which may be up to 2 1/2 hours long.

I can grasp having 3 hours a day, but my friend who plays flute says she practices for 6 hours per day. Which is totally bullsh*t. *sigh* anyways, I think 30 minutes per day is healthy, and not just going "oh ill just do 2 and a half hours on the weekend to make up for the five days that i`ve lost" because you`ll get really tired and lazy.

the reason for 3 hours a day is just to try to keep up with my repetory pieces, which seem to be getting more and more difficult. If I don`t play that much I fall behind, way behind. It is actually recommended by the university to spend 3 hours a day on your instrument, and yes on performance and lesson days I count that , just to cheat a little bit

I practice generally for at least 1 hour a day. One day might be 45 minutes, and another could be 3 hours if I`m really focused and am really striving. The one hour a day doesn`t include band which goes for an hour and a half or jazz band, which is about an hour and 15 minutes. During All-State though I was a practicing machine...it paid off though, I`m first in the state on Tenor Saxophone. There`s always room for improvement though!!!
