It seems that nobody here likes Cannonball saxes. I got one about six months ago, and I love it! I got the Big Bell Global series, black nickel finish with silver keys. It playes excellently, and I am glad that I made the purchase. Why is everybody against Cannonball? They make great instruments. To be honest, the Cannonball was modeled after a Selmer Mark 6! Why do you people hate Cannonball? I`m not understanding!!

a cannonball is not modled after a selmer mk vi. i have tried both side by side and eveything is diffrent, the sound, key work, easy of playing, tone, feel, look, just about everything was diffrent except that they were both saxophones. the main thing i dont like about them is that they feel cheap when you play one, and the sound is way to bright to play with a group.

Everyone has their own opinion about this. Everyone feels differently about things eg. not everyone loves Kenny G. The point is, nobody cares if cannonball makes good saxes or not, because everyone has different opinions on whats good and whats not, so this is never going to be resolved. Just stick with what you like, and don`t let other people`s opinions hinder yours.

gal, you`re partly right~ and partly,not so exactly...~I think.
When playing music ~ whatever you play ~ you will get many many ideas ,comment and criticism. it`s really an act of faith to stick to your own view. But it will be nice to hear the other voices. Just dont let them drive you blind. You gotta LISTEN to them and RECOGNISE them and DRAW the really good elements from it.
Don`t take whatever you hear , and also don`t reject whatever your hear. Just judge.

I`ve been playing a Keilwerth 90R tenor for sometime now and wanted to buy a backup tenor that would not be so costly. I always thought about a Cannonball but never really thought I would buy one until I found a two month old..( still new ) nickle plated one for $1300 from ebay. While I was awaiting for the horn to arrive I kept thinking that maybe I made a mistake buying it after sometime ago trying one in a shop and not really being that satified with the price tag that came with a new one. It finally arrived and I played it for about two good hours straight and thought well it really isn`t such a bad horn after all. I will say that the Keilwerth is a superior to the Cannonball but as the years go by I predict that with better craftmanship on these horns, they will get the respect that will be owed to them!!! Not a bad horn after all and the price was right..$1300 not $2700 for a new one!!!!!

You are not alone in liking your Cannonball axe. I posted a lengthy take on this in another thread.
I really like the sound and feel of my black nickel Big Bell Global tenor. I tried one thinking it would suck and came away a believer. Might there be a sax out there whose sound I might like even better? Maybe, but it will cost more than I could afford. Besides, the CB has an unmistakeably professional sound.
Play what sounds good to you and don`t look back.
P.S. Ordering any horn on ebay without ever trying a horn of that brand and model takes a lot of guts- glad it worked out for you.
