I was "handed down" a Yamaha recorder a while back, and recently thought maybe I`d try actually learning how to play it - but I`m not sure exactly what I have.
I *think*, based on the style and popularity of the model, that it`s probably a soprano in the key of C - but the only identifying mark I can find on it is the letter B right over the thumb hole.

If it helps, it looks exactly like this one:

And secondly, once I`ve figured out what it is, how do I tune it?

Thanks!

Hi
I t looks like a german fingered model
and depending on the size 20cm spranino 30cm soprano (descant) 45cm Treble 60cm tenor and 76cms for the bass ish anyway different makes vary alittle.
the bigger recorders have keys but the sizes hardly change through out the range.
yours looks like a descant.
Have fun ...

forgot to mention ..as it is plastic you won`t need to tune it just use the right fingering.

Not sure if this is the difference in fingering, but I just noticed the one I have actually has the last two finger holes before the "double" holes switched - the one in the photo has holes going small large large large small.... mine has them small large large small large.

And are ya sure about the tuning? If it doesn`t need to be tuned is the "correct" placement of the head just all the way down? Because the tone does change of I adjust it. And I have heard others talking about tuning their plastic recorders :/

By the lenght it is probobly a descant and regards the tuning recorders very rarely if ever need tuning although somtimes it is needed for wooden ones

Actually, a B signify`s a Baroque fingering. So in all likely hood, you`ve got a Descant/Soprano, Baroque fingering recorder. Check this place out, it has some great hints and teaching tips for learning the harder notes!
