Hi, I am new to the forum. I play tenor. I have a plastic Yamaha Tenor to practise on,which is good and a Mollenhauer Dream Tenor for 'best', which is fantastic. I read music, have played on and off for years and am constantly looking for new inspiration for interesting new things to play, especially folk and contemporary stuff. Any ideas?

I'm a tenor player, too, but also play soprano and have recently bought a bass - haven't got too far on that yet. I always said I wasn't going to bother with the "F" instruments but this bass was too good a bargain to pass up, so now I'm learning again!

There's so much music out there, but you really need to get into a group where lots of music will be available. Are there any recorder society meetings in a city near you? google American Recorder Society if you live in the U.S. There's also the Recorder Society in Canada. They can maybe tell you if there are groups meeting near you. I have great huge stacks of music now, from my association with these type of groups (but mostly ancient stuff).

I am in the U.K. and have recently emailed the SRP in the U.K. for a local group. They havn't got back to me yet, but I will definatley go along when they do. The whole family are musical, but it gets a bit lonely being the only recorder player! I do play along to their guitars, pianos etc on occasion, but I would love to have other people to talk recorder to apart from anything else!
I do play the descant as well, but find the transition from tenor really difficult, as my hands just seem to be too big! I have very long fingers and I have no difficuly with the stretch on the tenor at all, I have the problem in reverse to most people. I also play the low D Irish whistle, but don't find it as satisfying to play as the recorder.
I recently bought a book of Beatles songs for the recorder, they sound beautifull on the Mollenhauer. The trouble with the Mollenhauer is that I am a bit paranoid about it, and only try to play it for an hour or so at a time, but once I get started I don't want to put it down and pick up the plastic one again! Do you find this with your wooden instruments?

Have you looked at Amazon.com/ ? You can find many great books there, even used, for just a few bucks. You can also look at transcriptions or even make your own.

Good luck.

(here's my brand new Recorder forum http://www.getphpbb.com/phpbb/index.php?mforum=recorderhaven) Check it out. It is only in the beginning, but I am determined to help it grow.

Again, good luck to you.
